Drooping and Sagging Cheeks Treatment

Regardless of what you do – even if you live a healthy lifestyle, eat well, exercise regularly, and have a solid skin care routine – at some point, ageing and gravity are going to catch up. When this happens, one of the first places you will see the difference is in your face. However, there are many options to fight the effects of aging.

What Happens to the Face as You Age?

As you age, typically around 40 years old, your eyes may begin to look slightly sunken and your face may start to lose volume. Your cheeks may hollow out and your skin may begin to lose its elasticity and firmness. Because of this, many people may begin searching for a way to restore their youthful skin and appearance. Fortunately, Dr. Cohen can perform many cosmetic procedures that can create the youthful, vibrant effect you want to cancel out these signs of aging.

Solutions for Achieving the Desired Effects

Some people may think gaining some weight will help add lost volume to their face and restore a healthy, plump look. However, this doesn’t usually work the way you would like it to. A better long-term solution to reviving your facial structure and adding volume and plumpness to your cheeks is the midface lift.

This procedure can help restore the contours that were previously present on your face so you can once again have a youthful appearance. In some cases, a neck lift can provide similar results.

Midface Lift Techniques

We use several different techniques for a midface lift. For example, we may use fat from another part of your body or even cheek implants to create a fuller and more pronounced look. Before scheduling the procedure, you will have a consultation with the doctor to determine the best course of action for your desired results.

Cheek Implants FAQ's

Generally, a cheek lift is done on the lower third half of your face, while a midface lift is done at the top of the cheeks to lift them. If you want to improve the look of the lower half of your face as well as your neck, you will potentially need to invest in both a cheek lift and a neck lift.

One or both of these procedures can be used to help Chicago, Glenview and Lincoln Park patients eliminate sagging skin under the chin and in the jowls. However, if you are having issues with under eye hollows or circles under your eyelids, a midface lift is the preferred treatment.

During your consultation, Dr. Cohen will discuss your options and help you determine which procedure will benefit you most.

A midface lift is designed to elevate the cheeks alone. However, when you consider the term facelift, it typically refers to improving the neck or jawline. This is also known as a neck lift.
Both of these procedures vary from the popular “mini-lift,” which refers to a minor facelift that uses minimal incisions to improve the neck and jawline.

Those who undergo a midface lift will often receive an implant made from silicone or another medical grade material that is positioned through incisions in the mouth to plump the cheeks. Our cosmetic surgeon may also use fat removed from the thighs or abdomen to increase volume. A hairline or lower eyelid incision may also be used to lift and tighten the skin in the cheek tissue.

Since a midface lift is a more invasive procedure, it does require general anesthesia and takes around two hours to complete. It is always done by a qualified surgeon as opposed to an esthetician or other beauty expert. Dr. Cohen has completed extensive studies at several different schools and has performed over a thousand surgeries, and is proud to be approved to operate at two major hospitals.

During the procedure, Dr. Cohen will make incisions to reposition the facial muscles and fat to create a more sculpted, youthful look. Sutures or stitches are used to close the incisions, and a garment will be put over your face to help it heal.

A midface lift is a generally low-risk procedure. However, with the amazing results comes some needed recovery time. Directly after the procedure, your cheeks may look a little fuller than you’d like, but the swelling and bruising will calm down about 24-48 hours after the procedure and return to a more natural look.

Your jaw and face muscles may be slightly sore or in pain, which can be minimized with pain medication. You may need to take some time off work to recover, and refrain from any sort of strenuous activity for a few weeks. While you will notice the results immediately after the procedure, it will be about 2-4 months until the results are fully visible. After this short recovery period, you will enjoy a tight, youthful look for years to come.

Regardless of the technique used, these procedures will create fuller cheeks and a younger appearance. When you consult with Dr. Cohen, he will evaluate your current facial structure, your goals and your overall medical history in order to provide recommendations for you. Whether he recommends a neck lift, a midface lift or any other option, you can rest assured it will be the ideal choice for creating the results you want.

When you set up your appointment with our Chicago or Glenview office, we will work hard to determine the best option to meet your needs and your budget.
